Mercury in Libra, what it means

Mercury is the prince among the planets. It rules intelligence, speech, writing, trade, accounts, technology, learning and the nervous system. Mercury usually stays three to four weeks in a sign, but it turns retrograde about three times a year and then can stay much longer.

Libra is the sign of Venus, a friend of Mercury. Mercury is balanced and diplomatic here, and trade, negotiation and law come into focus. In this cycle Mercury turns retrograde in Libra and then direct again, so it stays in Libra for more than two months.

Libra is an air sign ruled by Venus. It covers the Nakshatras Chitra (pada 3, 4), Swati, Vishakha (pada 1, 2, 3). With Mercury here, matters of communication, trade, studies, contracts and decision making take on the colour of Libra, such as trade, partnerships, law, fashion and balance.

Mercury retrograde

While Mercury is retrograde, delays and misunderstandings in messages, travel, technology and contracts are common. It is a good time to review, revise and finish old work, and a weak time to sign new deals or buy electronics.

Mercury combust

When Mercury is close to the Sun it is called combust (Asta). Its results become weaker, and judgement and speech may be affected by ego.
