World Predictions 2027: Geopolitics, War and Alliances

By Dr Gautam DK and Naresh Gautam · From the Annual Horoscope 2027 series

The world enters 2027 still carrying the strain of recent years. The Russia-Ukraine war has no lasting settlement. The ceasefire between the US and Iran broke down in Jul 2026, and the Strait of Hormuz is still disputed. Tariff wars, stricter migration rules and unrest in several African nations have made countries more guarded.

The planets do not point to an easy year. Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu and Mars form combinations that raise ideological differences, religious issues, border tension and political aggression. Countries will look after their own interests first, and talk of national security, borders, immigration and internal stability will grow louder.

The planets that shape 2027

Water signs and fire signs are hit again and again. That is why religion, public emotion, land and water stay in focus all year.

Delays in peace talks till mid-Apr

With Jupiter retrograde till 13 Apr, global agreements, peace talks and international cooperation may move slowly or get confused. Countries may review earlier commitments, and some old disputes may come back to the table.

Religion, borders and migration

From 25 Jan, Jupiter joins Ketu in Cancer. This brings sensitivity around religion, land, homeland, refugees and borders. Demand for anti-conversion laws, immigration control and strict border policies may grow, and right-wing parties may gain ground in many countries.

The pressure rises sharply when Mars joins them on 10 Mar. This is one of the most sensitive combinations of the year. It can increase religious controversy, communal tension, riots, terrorist activity and military action. The US may become more aggressive towards migrants, and boats carrying migrants to the US and the EU may face strong resistance.

Water may become a cause of conflict

Disputes over water treaties may turn aggressive in 2027. The Indus Waters Treaty between India and Pakistan may come into sharp focus, especially after the weak monsoon of 2026 and the suspension of the treaty. A conflict between countries over water cannot be ruled out. In Gaza, the shortage of water may cause great suffering.

The Middle East and the battle for sea lanes

The Middle East is likely to stay unstable. Temporary peace arrangements may not hold for long. Iran, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and the surrounding region may remain sensitive, and more countries may get involved indirectly through funding, weapons or diplomacy.

Saturn in Pisces, the sign of the ocean, has restricted movement at sea, as the war between the US and Iran showed. The world is waiting for the Strait of Hormuz issue to be settled, but we see a new battleground forming between nations and militant groups for control of the sea lanes. This pressure may continue till Saturn leaves Pisces on 3 Jun.

Europe and the US

Europe may face pressure from migration, religious identity, economic stress and political division. Right-wing parties may gain support in several countries. The US may face internal political pressure, immigration disputes and public division, and its dominance in world trade and currency may be challenged further.

Saturn in Aries from 3 Jun

Saturn enters Aries, the sign of the army, fire and the head, on 3 Jun and stays there till 20 Oct. Saturn entered Aries on 28 Apr 1939, and the Second World War began on 1 Sep 1939. It entered Aries on 18 Jun 1968, and the Warsaw Pact armies invaded Czechoslovakia on 20 Aug 1968. It entered Aries again on 18 Apr 1998, and India carried out its nuclear tests at Pokhran on 11 and 13 May.

Not every transit brings such events, but on this basis a new war front may open between 3 Jun and 20 Oct 2027. Countries may increase defence spending and upgrade weapons, drones, missiles and cyber security. The days around 29 Aug, when Mars is exactly opposite Saturn, also need care.

India's rising role

India may continue to rise as a global power, with a bigger role in diplomacy, defence, trade and technology. From 13 Apr, India can gain respect as a peace broker between countries at war, and a permanent seat in the Security Council or a major diplomatic role is possible. Relations with China, Bangladesh and Pakistan may stay sensitive, and the eastern and northeastern borders may need more security attention.

Our 2026 predictions that came true

These predictions were printed in the Annual Horoscope 2026 before the year began.

The war in the Middle East. We wrote that more countries would get involved in the Middle East conflict and that Iran would look for new alliances. We marked 13 Mar to 11 Jul 2026 as a major alert period for loss of life in war. On 28 Feb 2026, the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran, and Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in Tehran the same day. This came five days after Mars joined Rahu and Kaal Sarp Yoga was formed. His son Mojtaba Khamenei was named Supreme Leader on 8 Mar 2026. Iran fired missiles at Israel and at US bases across the region, and Hezbollah, the Houthis and other groups were drawn in. Ceasefires came only in Apr 2026, and the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire was agreed on 16 Apr 2026, inside the alert window.

Trade and India's ties with the West. We wrote that India's relations with Western countries would improve for business reasons, and that President Trump's trade policies would push other countries to find new partners. On 27 Jan 2026, India and the European Union sealed a free trade agreement that many called the mother of all deals. The US tariffs pushed both sides to close the deal.

The role of the United Nations. We wrote that the role of the UN may be reduced or become irrelevant. On 7 Jan 2026, President Trump ordered the US to withdraw from 66 international organisations, including most UN-related bodies.

Defence spending. We wrote that the defence sector would grow quickly. In the Union Budget of 1 Feb 2026, India raised its defence budget by 15 percent to a record Rs 7.85 lakh crore.

Gold prices. We wrote that gold may rise during the year. Gold touched a record high in Jan 2026 and was still close to record levels in Jun 2026.

Earthquakes and eclipses. We wrote that the Saturn and Mars conjunction in Pisces from 2 Apr to 11 May 2026 could cause a major earthquake, and that eclipses can bring unpleasant events within 20 to 30 days. On 20 Apr 2026, an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck Iwate in Japan. On 26 Aug 2026, two weeks after the total solar eclipse of 12 Aug, flash floods and landslides along the Nepal and China border killed more than 1,000 people.
