Mercury in Capricorn, what it means

Mercury is the prince among the planets. It rules intelligence, speech, writing, trade, accounts, technology, learning and the nervous system. Mercury usually stays three to four weeks in a sign, but it turns retrograde about three times a year and then can stay much longer.

Capricorn is the sign of Saturn, a friend of Mercury. Mercury is practical, organised and business minded here, good for planning, accounts and long term projects. In this cycle Mercury also comes back into Capricorn while retrograde.

Capricorn is an earth sign ruled by Saturn. It covers the Nakshatras Uttara Ashadha (pada 2, 3, 4), Shravana, Dhanishta (pada 1, 2). With Mercury here, matters of communication, trade, studies, contracts and decision making take on the colour of Capricorn, such as government structure, industry, labour and discipline.

Mercury combust

When Mercury is close to the Sun it is called combust (Asta). Its results become weaker, and judgement and speech may be affected by ego.
