Shilpa Shastra, the ancient book of architecture, says that Lord Ganesha’s colour is red. In our body, there are seven energy centres called chakras. Each chakra has its own colour.
The first chakra is called Muladhara, or the root chakra. It is at the base of the spine. Its colour is red, and Lord Ganesha is the ruler of this chakra. That’s why the colour red is linked to him.
Because of this, people offer red flowers to Lord Ganesha. Red flowers match his energy and make him happy. Along with red flowers, people also offer red cloth and red sandalwood paste.
Another special offering is tender grass blades, called durva or drubh. These are given in odd numbers like 1, 3, 5, or 7—or even as a small garland made of the grass. It is believed that durva can attract Ganesha’s energy. When this grass is offered, Lord Ganesha is pleased and blesses the devotee quickly.
When we offer red flowers, red cloth, red sandalwood, or durva to Lord Ganesha, it is said that his idol or image becomes full of life and energy.
So, to make Ganesha happy and get his blessings, we should always offer things that he loves the most.
