Uttarbhadarpada Nakashtra – Mythology and Characteristics

Uttar Bhadar Pada Nakshtra

Uttar Bhadar Pada Nakshtra

(3 Deg   20 mins in Pisces – 16 deg 40 mins  in Pisces)

Uttarbhadarpada Nkashtra is 26th Nakshtra in the series of Nakshtras. It is ruled by Saturn and falls in Pisces sign. It is spread from 3’20” up to 16’40” in Pisces (Meena) Rashi. Lord of Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra is Jupiter (Guru). People born in this Nakshtra have energies of Jupiter and Saturn both which give them knowledge, maturity, wealth, religious attitude, strength, happiness and a big family.

Nakshtra in Astronomy

Uttarabhadrapada, the zenith of saturnine energy, is represented in the celestial firmament by two bright stars, one of which lies in the constellation of Pegausu, while the other is seen as being part of the constellation Andromda.  This is the Square of Pegasus where two stars indicate Purvabhadarpada and two stars indicate Uttarbhadarpada. As per Indian Vedic system, these stars are representative of the back legs of a funeral cot (or sleeping bed).

Symbol: Two Legs of a Bed

Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra in Astrology can be split as Uttara and Bhadhrapadha. Uttara means later and Bhadrapada means gentle legs. So Uttharabhadhrapadha means after the baby is born.

Purvabhadarpada and Uttar Bhadrapada are the pairs which are complementary to each other. Purav Bhadarpada is the Early and BhadarPada means gentle legs. So means before the baby is born. These two Nakshtra denotes legs of a Bed or cot. Where first two legs denote Purvabhadarpada and last two Uttar Bhadar Pada. The symbol of Uttharabhadhrapadha is the remaining 2 legs of a bed.

Few people relate to the two legs of funeral cot on which a dead body is taken for cremation. A funeral cot denotes our exit from the world, and the sign Pisces, or the 12th house in the chart, signifies this exit. Since the complete Nakshtra falls in Pisces sign, the 12th sign in Kaal Purush Chart, this pair of Nakshtra represent process of Dying  (front two legs of funeral cot) and then initial state after death (two rear legs of funeral cots). Interestingly people with these Nakshtra will always found holding the funeral cot where ever they go at death procession.

In general it can be related to sleep state. Sleep is also a temporary death. People born in Puravbhadarpada and Uttarbhadarpada Nakhtras have connection with sleep and dreams. The earlier people have lot of dreams and disturbed sleep state but the later have minimum dreams and deep sleep state.

Mythology of this Nakshtra

Ahirbudhnya is the main deity of Utthara Bhadhrapada. He is a Rudhra. He is one who rules over the serpents beneath earth. He is in form of ahi or serpent and is the ‘budhna’ or foundation of the world. Ahirbudhnya means the serpent at the base or belonging to the depth. He is referred as Śeśa or Ananta, the thousand-hooded Serpent, on whose head the whole world is said to be supported, according to some of the purāṇas.

Ahir Budhnya, the benefic serpent of the depths of the Atmosphere, symbolizes fertility, kundalini energy. Like Ajaikapada, Ahirbudhnya can reference the power that the Tantrikas call the Kundalini Shakti, an energy which once activated initiates a process of spiritual evolution. In Ahirbudhnya Saṃhitā which literally means a compendium (Samhita) of the serpent-from-the-depths (from ahi for serpent and budhna for bottom / root), Vishnu emanated in 39 different forms. In the Veda, ahi budhna (serpent of the bottom) is an atmospheric god is shown as merged with Rudra-Siva  (Pashupati); with Ahi Budhanya in later Vedic texts connected to Agni Grahapatya, suggesting this was a benevolent being and not the malevolent Ahi Vritra. Ahirbudhnya and Aja-Ekapada had their share of allocated ghriya (Grihyasutra) rituals. In later puranic literature, Ahirbudhnaya becomes one of the 11 Rudras.

Since the higher fortune is located in the lower recesses of Earth, wherein the crystalline grid is located. Ahira- Budhhanya is the one who is guardian of the treasures stored in the inner recesses below the surface of Earth. Often depicted as a serpent steadily defending a hoard of precious treasure at the bottom of the ocean, Ahira (diamond) is certainly a collector and preserver of treasuries. However, the location of His activities is rarely recognized. It can be related to Nagas who protect the guardians of treasures buried under earth and to be used only once their real owner shows up.

Saturn also related to treasures which grow from earth, all the coal products, petroleum, minerals and in food items which are uprooted.  Thus, Ahira-budhnaya is aware of the jewel-stash supervises these massive and precious assets of inter-galactic civilization which allows Earth to remain connected to the sustaining wealth of the galaxy and beyond. In case of over exploitation of these resources, it creates a pandemic or tragic accident to avoid further damages to earth.

Proportional to their level of consciousness, those born into the nakshatra of Uttara-bhadra are participating in the massive scope of wealth reserves which exists within Earth. Uttara-bhadrapada’s inborn assets consist of both monetary wealth and treasure-chests of knowledge. Those born into the precious portion of Uttara-bhadra-pada are often distinguished by extraordinary wealth of knowledge or their astounding material assets along with their Guru-characteristic charity in sharing this largesse.

Ahirbudhnya is one of the sons of Viśvakarmā. Five sons and one daughter were born to Viśvakarmā of his wife Surabhī. They were Ajaikapāt, Ahirbudhnya, Tvaṣṭā, Rudra, Barhiṣmatī and Saṃjñā. So being son of Visvakrma, the God’s Architect, he has inbuilt talent of architect, construction or creativity.

According to the Viśvakarma-śilpa. He keeps in his right hands    the gadā, chakra, khaḍga, ḍamaru, mudhara, śūla, aṅkuśa and akṣamālā; and in the left hands the tomara (an iron club), paṭṭiśa, kavacha (shield), kapāla, tarjanī, ghaṭa, śakti and paraśu; or, there may be in one of the left hands a sword as in the right hand.

So he is a multidimensional personality who can handle different jobs at the same time. As it is ruled by Jupiter sign lord and Saturn Nakshtra lord, the native tends to undertake many assignments at the same time. These people also master many subjects simultaneously. They may not get certificates or degrees from the regular institutes but they possess reasonably good knowledge of any subject. These people are the real believers in the power of knowledge. Due to their quest for knowledge, these people, even when they start form the lowest rung of the organizational chart, successfully rise to head their respective sections or even the organizations. These people are extremely versatile and do not like to spend their time idle. They tend to make a fortune at a place far away from their place of birth.

It also relates to Kundlini Shakti which is again symbolized by a serpent with two and a half coils. The primeval life force lying at the base of the spine in humans. This Nakshtra symbolizes enlightenment through the awakening of all the seven vital centres through the movement of the kundalini. This process of kundalini awakening is actually started in Anuradha, which can be seen as an associate asterism, in the sense that Satum rules both of these asterisms. Anuradha is the initiator of this process, while uttarabhadrapada is the culmination point of this process.

So if it is acting in negative way, he is the King of Underworld. Head of terrorist operations, a Mafia, controller of drugs and smuggler who trades in minerals including Gems. Kundalini also refers to state of trans which is achieved by various means including Drugs and sex. Pisces sign has duality of materialism and spiritualism. In Pisces sign, one pada of Puravbhadarpada which is ruled by Jupiter false so here the duality bends towards spiritualism but Uttabhadarpada which is ruled by Saturn complete Nakashtra falls in Pisces sign can  divert to  a state of materialism as it is care taker of the assets of earth hidden under its surface. Chances of native of this Nakashtra to materialism and getting involved in drugs, sex, all luxuries cannot be ruled out, if afflicted by a malefic planet as Rahu. So Jails, hospitals or place of isolation falls in this. Revati Nakashtra though falling in Pisces sign and ruled by Mercury has the intelligence to not get manipulated and also use the environment for their commercial gains.

Like Neptune, it presides over the celestial ocean. Even Vishnu, the preserver among the Trinity, has a similar symbolism as can be seen from his lying on a serpent bed on top of the celestial ocean image

Finally Shiva, the destroyer among the cosmic Trinity, can be seen as the main presiding deiff of this asterism, even though its symbolism relates to Vishnu. This asterism has a dissolution aspect to it in the guises of death, transformation and enlightenment through destruction of forms – Shiva,s domain. Shiva also carries a serpent around his neck.
