PITRU PAKSHA 2022

Purnima of Bhadrapada and Pratipada of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is called Pitru Paksha. In the year 2022, Pitru Paksha will start from 10 September 2022 (Saturday) till 25 September 2022 (Sunday).
As per Hindu religion, it is believed that the souls of the ancestors reside in Pitrulok and they descend on earth during the Pitrupaksha. So, every year during this time, the deceased’s family members perform Shradh to pay homage to the ancestors. The rituals performed during the Pitru Paksha helps the departed souls to attain salvation. One year at Buloka (Earth) is equivalent to one day at Piturlok. So as we offer food to them after one Year but it is as offering food to them daily.
Those having any sort of Pitur Dosha in their birth chart must I say Must do Shraad during this period. This period is to relate with your DNA through the medium of food, giving them respect and take their blessings. It also serve them food otherwise they will remain hungry, despite having done lot of donation during their life time on earth. So Don’t ignore these days considering yourself as modern society.

According to the Brahmapuran, a man should worship his ancestors before worshiping the deities as it is believed that this pleases the deities. These offerings are in the form of Shradh which is performed on the date of death falling in Pitru Paksha and if the date is not known, then Ashwin Amavasya can be worshiped which is also known as Sarva Prabhu Amavasya. On the day of Shraadh, we remember our ancestors by offering tarpan and offering food and donation to Brahmins. Here Donation is to Brahmin and not the needy people because Brahmin is considered as medium to transfer your offering to your ancestors. You can keep offering anything to needy people as per the capabilities but it should not be mixed here.
According to Hinduism, the souls of three generations of ancestors reside in Pitruloka, which is believed to be the place between heaven and earth. Hindu Significance This region is governed by Yama, the god of death, who carries the soul of a dying person from the earth to Pitruloka.
When the person of the next generation dies, the first generation goes to heaven and is reunited with the Lord, hence the offering of Shraadh is not given. Thus in Pitruloka only three generations are given the shraadh ceremony, in which Yama has an important role. So one offering is made to Yama also during the Shraadh.
